The American car company Ford will use McDonald’s coffee waste to protect the headlights of their cars.
Starting this year, the company will be taking the coffee husk, which is formed during the coffee roasting process, for the plastic filler body of some car headlights.
“Most plastics are reinforced with filler, or fiber – talc, or fiberglass,” says Debbie Mivelski, Ford’s senior technical leader.
During the work in the laboratory found that the outer layer of beans provides a lightweight heat-resistant filler. The developers have replaced the talc in this component with 22% of the coffee husk, which is much less dense and environmentally friendly.
