Thousands of Windows users lost access to Skype

07

In early June, Microsoft announced that Skype had come up with a major upgrade that it would compete with iMessage, WhatsApp, Messenger, Snapchat, and other messengers. The company has changed the design, adding a few new features. Meanwhile, along with the announcement of the major update, the developers also reminded of the cessation of the support of some of the old platforms since July 1 this year.

Beginning July 1, 2017, the owners of devices running Windows RT, Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 got rid of Skype access. Messenger will stop working on Smart TVs and Messaging for Windows 10 Mobile. Recall that the decision to stop Skype support on the listed OS is due to the transition of service to cloud infrastructure. For those who plan to continue using Skype, developers recommend updating the operating system.

It is expected that developers will not stop updating the mobile versions of the messenger: shortly there will be significant changes in the work of Skype users macOS and Windows.
