NASA REPAIRS APPARAT ON MARS, TO MAKE IT TO KICK ITSELF WITH A SHOVEL
NASA engineers have been able to repair an InSight landing gear that crashed while operating on Mars.
The engineers gave him a command to hit himself with a shovel. Scientists have found this the most reliable way. The breakdown occurred when InSight was drilling down Mars to insert a seismometer and examine the internal structure of Mars. Suddenly his drill jammed and even after several attempts to pull the device it remained in place.
It took several months to complete the design, as the impact could have damaged InSight mechanisms, so NASA’s experts first simulated it on Earth. After the impact, the drill bit is released from the adhering soil, and the machine can continue to carry out research.
