GOOGLE IS ACCUSED OF SECRETLY FUNDING RESEARCH WAYS TO COUNTER COMPETITION LAWS
Google pays millions of dollars to American and British scholars for conducting research that should sway public opinion in favor of the company.
In the period from 2005 to 2017, Google funded 329 such studies. At the same time, in two thirds of cases, the authors of works received from the company from $ 5 thousand to $ 400 thousand
These studies covered a number of topics of great importance for Google to succeed. Among them – antimonopoly regulation, privacy protection, network neutrality, search neutrality, patents and copyright protection.
In those moments when Google received threats from anti-trust authorities, the number of research-sponsored companies rose sharply.
Google’s Social Policy Director, Leslie Miller, said funding is helping scientists continue their research. At the same time, she noticed that the Campaign for Accountability “constantly refuses to name its corporate sponsors.” She also added that one of them is Oracle, which is actively promoting Google.
