BIRTHDAY OF THEATRIS: POPULAR GAME CELEBRATES 35 YEARS
35 years ago, on June 6, 1984, programmer Alexei Pajitnov released a computer game Tetris.
The name of the game comes from two words: “tetramino”, which means a figure of four squares, and “tennis” – the favorite sport of the programmer. Tetris was developed on the computer Electronics-60 in order to study the problems of artificial intelligence and speech recognition.
Later, the programmer reworked the program for manual control, and so an interesting puzzle. Since 1989, Tetris has appeared on almost every gaming platform: from Dendy to PlayStation 4 and mobile platforms, spreading around the world in excess of 170 million copies. By 2019, Tetris was in second place by popularity, yielding to Minecraft.
