In Amsterdam, breweries of The Hyatt Regency Amsterdam and Lowlander brewed beer from discarded Christmas trees.

The campaign started in December 2018. Its main purpose is to reduce the amount of waste, as well as being able to create something delicious from them, the authors say. A total of about a thousand Christmas trees were collected, and 600 kilograms of needles from them. Brewers brewed beer from the collected Christmas tree needles.

The brewery noted that the drink came out light, with the aroma of coniferous trees, citrus fruits and hops. Only beer can be bought or ordered in the Netherlands. The campaign to collect Christmas trees is promised to continue and release another batch of Christmas beer.
