Robots can smell and taste
Based in London and Lausanne, Rewired, a venture capital studio focused on robotics, has agreed on a partnership with Aromyx, which has found a way to digitize the taste and smell.
Aromyx is developing a technology that allows you to create a person-specific olfactory system.
The digital imitation of taste and smell was problematic for engineers, biologists and chemists, partly because it requires complex coordination of all three areas of work. But Aromyx, in collaboration with Stanford scientists, has figured out how to reproduce the biochemical signals that our bodies send to the brain and measure these signals in an informative way.
It created EssenceChip – a one-time biosensor that can be adapted to various non-laboratory environments. The circle for this technology is quite extensive, including quality control for food and beverage companies and the creation of flavorings for food chains. For robotics, the development of Aromyx also offers great opportunities. According to the Rewired representative, improvement in sensory abilities will pave the way for the next generation of intelligent robotics.
